Making soap using almond oil will give you a luxurious feeling bar of soap that will moisturize your skin. The natural emollients in almond oil make it an excellent choice when dealing with psoriasis, eczema and other causes of dry, itchy skin.

Rich in essential fatty acids, almond oil also contains several vitamins that improve your skin’s health. Almond oil also adds a great lathering quality to your soap. You can choose a recipe that uses almond oil as the main oil, or one that uses it as a trace oil. Either way, this oil is great for all types of skin and will make your soap feel wonderful.

When preparing your homemade soap recipe, make sure you follow all safety precautions and use the right equipment. Lye and uncured soap is caustic to the skin and will blind you if you get it in your eyes. Always err on the side of caution. Once your soap is cured, it is completely safe for your skin.

You should wear safety goggles and neoprene gloves to protect yourself when mixing your sodium hydroxide (lye) and your liquid. Be sure to stir this until the lye is completely dissolved. Set this aside and let it cool until it is between 100 and 125 degrees Fahrenheit. When it reaches that temperature, it is time to combine your oils together and heat them within a range of 100 to 125 degrees.

Only when both your oils and your lye solution is in the same temperature range should they be combined. Always add the lye to the oils… never add the oils to the lye. Use safety measures to avoid splashing. Stir the mixture until it traces. Tracing means that when the soap has reached the consistency where it will leave a trail before disappearing back into the mixture when it is drizzled back on itself. If you have a stick blender, this will speed up this process.

If you are using any essential oils or fragrance oils, this is the time to add them. You may also add a bit of almond oil at this stage if you wish. It is an excellent oil to use after the trace stage to superfat your soap. Superfatting allows the oil to remain in its natural state, making it instantly available to your skin when using the soap. Stir well, and then pour the soap into molds to cure.

A homemade soap recipe based on almond oil might consist of something like this for a one pound batch:

6.4 ounces of sweet almond oil

3.2 ounces of coconut oil

1.6 ounces of grape seed oil

1.6 ounces of lanolin oil

3.2 ounces of shea butter

2.2 ounces of lye (sodium hydroxide)

5.7 ounces of water

0.2 ounces of sweet almond oil added at trace for superfatting

Making soap with almond oil is a great way to moisturize and care for your skin without all the additives you get from commercial brands. With a little caution, you’ll soon find out how fun it can be to make your own soap. Your skin and your family will thank you for it! Ingredients can be found online and in an afternoon you can whip up a batch. After it is cured, you’ll wonder why you ever washed with anything else.

All you need are soap making recipes that range in difficulty from the easiest to the most challenging. If you are only starting out, be sure to pick out soap making recipes that require minimal ingredients and less work. You’re a beginner so it pays to take things slow. Making soap may be easy but it requires meticulous attention to details. Get the measurements wrong and you end up with a batch of soap that is nothing but unusable goo.

In choosing soap making recipes, try the ones that do not require specialized equipment first. You will be making your soap from your kitchen so a recipe that requires the use of complex machines and processes is not a good one to try. Most soap making recipes make use of the four basic home made soap making methods. These are:

1. Cold Process
This is the most common process. In the cold process, you make soaps from scratch with the use of lye and oil.

2. Hot Process
This method is a version of the cold process. In the hot process, soap is cooked.

3. Melt and Pour
Under this method, pre-made bars of soap are melted. Then, you add your own fragrance to the mix.

4. Rebatching
Under this method, bars of soap are ground up. Then, water or milk is added to the bits before the mixture is reblended.

Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. Learn more about them when you download Burgundy Shank’s manual, ‘Simple Soapmaking’. The ebook is a complete guide to making soap and shares the different techniques that Shank herself used to make her soap business successful. When it comes to business, soap making recipes are not everything. If you are to succeed in your own enterprise, then it pays to get expert advice.
